Domain renewal, auto-renew and expiry

Aktualisiert 7. November 2026

A domain stays yours as long as it's renewed before its expiry date. You choose whether that happens automatically or whether you pay each renewal yourself.

Renew automatically

  1. In the dashboard, open Domains and click the domain.
  2. Under Renewal, turn Auto-renew on.

Auto-renew needs a saved card. If you don't have one yet, the dashboard asks you to add it under Billing. We then charge the card before the domain expires, so you don't have to think about it.

Pay each renewal yourself

With auto-renew off, we send you a payment request before the expiry date. Pay it in time, with any of the payment methods we accept, and the domain renews.

Want to renew earlier, or add a year now? Click Renew now on the domain's page.

When a domain expires

If a renewal isn't paid in time, the domain expires. Your website and email on it stop working.

For a while after the expiry date, the domain can usually still be restored. That costs extra, because the registry charges a restore fee, and we'll tell you the amount first. After that period, the domain is released and anyone can register it.

So if you want to keep a domain, renewing on time is always the cheapest option.

Don't want to keep a domain?

Turn Auto-renew off. Is a payment request for its renewal already open? Open a ticket under Support and we'll withdraw it. The domain stays active until its expiry date and is then released.

Something looks wrong?

The dashboard shows the expiry date of each domain. If a domain shows as expired while you know it's paid, or you got a reminder from the registry that doesn't match the dashboard, open a ticket with the domain name and we'll check it right away.
